Decent breakfast food! I always get eggs, hash browns, sausage, and toast for a good breakie. Everthing tasted great, just like normal breakfast food. I would go back because I love that old cafe breakfast food. It's what I grew up on!

The Mountain Cafe has been around a very long time. Probably one of the oldest restaurants in town next to the Silver Grill. My grandfather often went here decades ago and always said he enjoyed the food here(ditto for the Silver Grill too). I made a trip in here a couple of weeks ago and got the biscuits and gravy, hash browns and to share a Johnson's Corner( or was it Vern's?) cinnamon roll and hot cocoa. I have to say I liked the biscuits and gravy much more than what I was anticipating... very tasty! Same goes for the hash browns too! I was surprised how much I liked the cinnamon roll.. I have tried the cinnamon roll before and never cared for it that much at it's place of origin but this time it was surprisingly good... though still not my favorite. The only thing that I was just a bit disappointed with was my hot cocoa. I could tell it was made from a powder and mixed in. I could see the powdery residue at the bottom and on the side of the cup. I openly admit that I have become a coffeehouse snob and prefer my hot cocoa in the form of syrup and steamed milk but it was not something worth complaining about... just being picky.

Breakfast at it's best!

The minute we walked through the door, I felt like I'd just stepped into a time machine and was transported back to the early 80's. The only thing that was missing was my florescent colored t-shirt that was tied in a knot on the side and a fluffy matching scrunchie pulling my permed hair back into a side pony-tail. I wanted to do a double take to see if there was a DeLorean out in the parking lot. As we sat at our table, flashbacks of watching E.T, the A-Team and Full House came flooding back to me. We asked for a high chair for The Toddler, which also matched the time traveling experience (I think one of my cousins actually had this squeaky brown metal chair). It inspired conversations of "Remember when we were little and they didn't have car seats?" The Mountain Cafe has been a local Fort Collins diner favorite for well over 20 years. While the atmosphere certainly hasn't changed over the years, and the menu hasn't either, many think that's a good thing. They serve classic Americana diner breakfasts and lunches that include the typical pancakes, eggs, toast and sausage or burger and fries. Many are fond of their breakfast burritos. I don't think they serve anything outstanding, memorable or noteworthy, but they do serve comfort. I think that's the appeal of diner food - it's familiar, no frills and comfortable. You know what to expect, and that's what you get. While the decor and atmosphere were lost in a time way back in the early 80's, their food is timeless and classic. It's nothing that sets them apart from any other diner in Fort Collins, but the comfort and unchanging familiarity they offer to loyal customers, is.

For starters, I was in a very indecisive mood when I walked in here... With an extremely grumbly stomach- I ordered an old stand by- bacon and eggs with hash browns and white toast. Adventurous I know- but I am a sucker for a traditional breakfast. At first glance I was a little- curious. My first bite- egg with toast. Then hash brown, followed by some bacon. They all tasted the same- burned. Not that my food was burned- but it tasted like the grill had been... I ate it all the same and did enjoy it. My favorite part of this place- community. I was probably the only person in the joint who wasn't known by name and yet... I felt welcome and comfortable all the same. Not much to speak of for atmosphere but... I am looking forward to going back. My only hope- that the avocado bacon sandwich is on the special board again...

Another Diner review. Someday I may get around to a listing of diners in different areas. Right across the street from the courthouse in downtown Ft. Collins. Pretty good diner eats, very basic atmosphere and food, diner prices. Good enough to bring me back a half dozen times when I was in the area. I always have breakfast at diners, regardless of the time of day or night, so consider my diner reviews for the breakfast food.

I love this spot! Cute little patio out back and I have no complaints about the food or service. Everything was excellent everytime I have been here. Delicious gluten-free pancakes.

A great family owned alternative to the obviously trendy Snooze (which was our first choice not knowing the area). Portions were awesome and the family takes great care of their customers with very attentive service. The patio was very cozy and great for conversation. If you want a good down home breakfast without all the fluff, Mountain Cafe is your place in Ft. Collins.

Old Town's little breakfast/lunch secret even comes with a private courtyard during warm weather ! Rarely a wait for a table even on the busiest days and it's only a block from the tracks ! Friendly staff, simple but always good hearty meals at a reasonable price. On top of that in good weather there are a few tables on the patio out back .....

Love this place!! My best friend and I have found our weekly breakfast spot. This is a family-owned business that provides yummy food and friendly service. Their pancakes are light and fluffy and the eggs are cooked perfectly. We haven't had an opportunity to eat lunch here yet, but have enjoyed breakfast on several Friday mornings. And the coffee's great too!

Nice little place for breakfast. I had an hour wait at the DMV across the street on a Friday morning, so I decided to give this place a shot. It's a no frills, simple place. Our server was very nice and the food came out super quick! The bacon was hot and cooked exactly to my taste. The only downside is that breakfast was so quick that I had to continue to wait at the DMV!

I have never been disappointed by the breakfast here. Their hash browns are the best I've ever eaten...cooked to a crispy perfection. DELICIOUS!

I would have not given any stars but needed to write this review. Whatever you do, DO NOT COME HERE! Came up for the day to ft collins and Snooze(my favoritist breakfast place) was very busy. Found this place and decided to go in real quick. It's small, which I don't care about, and everything in the place was old and well used, which I also don't care about. I'm not an atmosphere snob as long as the food has great flavor and it's hot and fresh. My husband and I stood just inside the door, and even though everyone who worked there (3 women) saw us no one came over to us for about 5m. I wanted to see how long it would take. The place was packed and had to wait about 10-15m for a counter seat. After we ordered a couple of tables opened up so we moved to that. We waited for about 25m and no food. People that were already there when we got there were just being served, so we asked how much longer cause we were going to leave. 3m she said. 5m later our food came out. I ordered french toast. It had cooked and uncooked egg hanging off the sides. You know that clear stuff thats on top of a sunnyside up egg? Yeah THAT stuff! Yuck! Had them take it off the bill. Server wanted to know if I wanted the kitchen to recook it. Uh, Yeah, sure...NOT. My husband had the corned beef omelet. Said it was barely ok. The server/cashier apologized saying that they got a large crowd in and that there was a 30-40m wait for food. I strongly believe that if you have a business that seats a certain amount of people that means the staff should be able to accommodate them. Do they never get full? Also, don't make excuses. We should have been told from the beginning that once we ordered it would take 30-40m, not when all is said and done.

Find another breakfast spot if you are visiting Fort Collins. I am a very patient person when it comes to food service, but this place took FOREVER. Also, when I asked the server for an iced coffee, she asked whether I wanted regular coffee or some special kind they carried. When I asked what the special kind was, she pointed to the table tent and said "It's that." The table tent just said "iced coffee." Then she looked at me like I was the incompetent one?! Food, when it finally arrived, was mediocre. I asked for a water after I finished my "that" coffee and they had run out of normal size cups. I was given a glass that was practically shot-sized that had white and green particles floating in the bottom. *gag* To top it off, the credit card machine was acting up and it took forever to pay. Never going here again.

I feel bad saying this, especially about a small business in my beloved Ft Collins, but tasted like boring greasy truck stop food to me :( Totally uninteresting. This was last year, but still... Not going back.

This place isn't hip or fashionable but if you are looking for a solid traditional breakfast this should be on your list. a friendly server greeted me when I walked in ( a plus) and I sat at the counter. Everything behind the counter was clean and well organized (another plus, which usually gives me optimism for the food at a given diner). Menu consists only of the brekast staples ( eggs, omlettes, french toast and pancakes) with a specials board offering a few alternatives. Like I said, traditional breakfast...just like I'm looking for when I go to a diner. My bacon and cheese omlette was done well....a nice portion of bacon in it...the hash browns were a little overdone, but that is just preference. Price was right on par with what you get. They also serve some sandwiches and burgers for lunch time. Overall A ok...good job.

decent price, fast service and simple breakfast food. You know what you'll get there at the cafe and I'm glad it's there for a quick breakfast. nothing to write home about though...

I love the feel of this place. The food is good but the feel of the place is the best part about it.
